Munshi Premchand (1880–1936)

Munshi Premchand (born Dhanpat Rai) was a major figure in Urdu and Hindi literature, widely revered as the pioneer of modern social realism in Hindi-Urdu fiction. Through poignant narrative prose, he exposed agrarian struggles, caste inequities, and rural poverty. Masterworks like Kafan established his enduring legacy as a humanist and master storyteller.
