Heidi

Heidi is a classic children’s novel written by the Swiss author Johanna Spyri. It tells the heart-warming story of a cheerful five-year-old orphan girl named Heidi. After her Aunt Dete finds a job in the city, she leaves Heidi in the care of her grandfather, a lonely and stern old man known as Uncle Alm, who lives high in the Swiss Alps and works as a goatherd. At first, the grandfather feels uncomfortable keeping the child, but Heidi’s innocence, kindness, and lively spirit soon soften his heart, and the two grow deeply attached. Surrounded by mountains, goats, and fresh air, Heidi makes friends and lives happily in nature. However, after three peaceful years, Aunt Dete takes her to Frankfurt to serve as a companion to Clara Sesemann, a gentle girl confined to a wheelchair. How will Heidi, a girl so fond of mountains, greenery, and goats, adjust to the crowded city of Frankfurt? Will she return to the Alps she loves so dearly? Can her friendship help Clara grow stronger and happier? Read this adventurous and delightful novel to discover the turning points in Heidi’s life and the changes her presence brings to her grandfather, Clara, and all her friends.
