After the grandmother left, strange things began to happen in the house. Fraulein Rottenmeier felt as if someone was following her, especially on the upper floor where the guest chambers were. Even Sebastian and Tinette avoided going alone into those parts of the house. Every morning, the servants found the front door standing wide open, and despite careful searches, nothing unusual could be found near it. This frightened everyone, and Fraulein Rottenmeier asked Sebastian and John to keep watch at night. Their watch took a dramatic turn when, shortly after midnight, they saw the front door slightly open and a white figure standing at the top of the steps.
