Maulvi Syed Mumtaz Ali (1860–1935)

Maulvi Syed Mumtaz Ali was an Urdu writer, publisher, translator, and pioneering advocate of women’s education and rights in South Asia. He founded the weekly Tehzeeb-e-Niswan in 1898 and the children’s journal Phool in 1909. His book Huqooq-e-Niswan argued forcefully for women’s dignity, education, and social reform.
