Once, there was an old, venerable willow tree standing opposite a field of buckwheat. Its long branches hung down like graceful green hair, and it had seen many seasons pass. Surrounding it were fields of corn, rye, barley, and oats—all humble crops that bowed their heads gently as they grew. But the buckwheat was different. It was proud and stubborn and refused to keep its head low. One day, a terrible storm arose. As the flowers and crops bent in humility to protect themselves, the buckwheat stood defiantly upright.
