Pinocchio Part 20

While Pinocchio was sleeping soundly, he was suddenly awakened by whispering coming from the courtyard. Looking out of the kennel, he saw four little polecats talking among themselves. One of them came near the kennel and greeted him, saying “Melampo,” upon which Pinocchio replied that his name was not Melampo, but Pinocchio. When asked what he was doing there, Pinocchio explained that he was acting as a watch-dog as a punishment. What would the polecats demand from Pinocchio? Would he accept their offer, or would he do something to free himself from the dog-collar? Read the story to find out how the peasant took pity on Pinocchio and released him from his punishment.
