
Timothy Shay Arthur (1809–1885)
Timothy Shay Arthur, widely known as T. S. Arthur, was a prolific American writer and editor noted for moral and temperance fiction. His best-known novel, Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There, portrayed the destructive effects of alcohol. He also edited periodicals and wrote extensively on family, conduct, and social reform.
