Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer, poet, and early humanist whose work helped shape Renaissance literature. His masterpiece, The Decameron, presents one hundred tales within a frame narrative and ranges across love, fortune, wit, and social life. His vigorous vernacular prose became highly influential in Italian and European storytelling.
