
Flora Annie Steel (1847–1929)
Flora Annie Steel was a British writer who spent more than two decades in India, chiefly in Punjab. She wrote fiction, history, and children’s literature, and collected regional folktales in Tales of the Punjab. Her work reflects sustained engagement with Indian society, women’s education, folklore, and the complexities of colonial life.
