Despite the Cricket’s instructions, Pinocchio resumed his journey along the dark road, convincing himself that there were no assassins. He believed that even if anyone appeared, he would either make them run away or escape himself. While thinking this, he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Turning back, he saw two ugly-looking black figures following him. Pinocchio quickly hid the gold pieces in his mouth and tried to run, but unfortunately, his attempt failed.
